Carlton County Sheriff

Kelly Lake

The mission of the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office is to provide for the Peace and Public Safety of the public while dealing with everyone in a fair and impartial basis.

As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county, the Sheriff is responsible for enforcement of county, state and federal laws. The Sheriff’s Office investigates crimes, accidents and apprehends criminals. The Sheriff’s Office also operates the county jail and dispatches emergency services such as police, fire and ambulances. As an officer of the Court, the Sheriff serves civil process and enforces Court orders and warrants.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office and the Carlton County Attorney's Office, along with Financial Crimes Services, have implemented a Criminal Worthless Check Diversion Program to recover full restitution from individuals issuing NSF/Account Closed/Refer to Maker/Electronic Checks in Carlton County.  This program is at no cost to the businesses and residents.  Any questions regarding this program can be directed to the Financial Crimes Services website at www.financialcrimes.net  or 1-800-880-5420.  You can also call the Carlton County Sheriff's Office at 218-384-3236.

Press Release: The Carlton County Sheriff's Office is part of a group of more than two dozen law enforcement agencies in Northeast Minnesota that have launched an Internet crime mapping initiative aimed at reducing crime across the Northland.

Citizens can now log onto www.crimemapping.com to track certain crimes happening in the area by date, time, type and location. You will also have the ability to sign up for email notification, alerting you to certain crimes in your community. While this does not include all of the activities and calls for service that the Carlton County deputies respond to, it does show 15 different crime types more serious in nature. We hope that this site will help create a better informed public, with this awareness helping to reduce and prevent crime.
