Cloquet is the largest city with a population of 12,124. Carlton County is also home to the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa with their reservation boundaries covering both Carlton and St. Louis Counties.
Carlton County has a natural resource-based economy in the primary industrial sectors of Wood and Wood Byproducts but has an increasing presence of transportation-based businesses due to its transportation corridors.
