[ARCHIVED] Washington Avenue Road Construction Project

Construction is scheduled to start on Wednesday, May 22nd. The roadway will be closed to through traffic with a signed detour using Highway 33, Carlton Avenue and old Highway 45. Work on the roadway between 14th Street and 22nd Street will begin approximately June 4th to August 30th. Local traffic will still be allowed on Washington Avenue, but there may be delays due to the work being done. Your cooperation with the detours will help speed up the work to provide a new road.

Questions or Comments?

Feel free to contact our office at 218-384-9150.

Traffic: Through traffic is to use the detour. Local traffic should use side streets to get as close to the property or business you want to reach and use Washington Avenue as little as possible. The more traffic the contractor has to deal with, the longer the work will take and the more risk there will be to drivers, construction workers and agency staff performing survey and inspection work.

Access to Property: Home owners will have access to their property throughout the project. There may be times where traffic is delayed or diverted due to construction of sanitary sewer, water main or storm sewer crossings. The roadway will be open by the end of each day. There will also be a 3 to 5 day period of limited access when concrete for driveways and sidewalks is poured and the concrete needs to cure. Home owners may have to park on the street or around the corner during this time.

Access to Businesses: Traffic will be able to access businesses in the corridor. The roadway will remain open for access with similar limitations for construction operations crossing the roadway for water, sanitary sewer or storm sewer work and the construction of concrete driveways and sidewalk. If a business has two accesses, construction will occur on one access at a time to allow the other access to be available.

Access to Churches: Traffic will be able to access churches in the corridor. The roadway will remain open for access with similar limitations for construction operations crossing the roadway for water, sanitary sewer or storm sewer work and the construction of concrete driveways and sidewalk. If a church has two accesses, construction will occur on one access at a time to allow the other access to be available. We will work with the contractor to have the driveways and sidewalk areas completed during the week so full access is available during weekends.

Access to Schools: Traffic will be able to access the Middle School campus in the corridor. Work between 14th Street and 22nd Street is to take place after school is out for the summer and be completed before school starts in the fall. The roadway will remain open for access for summer school activities with similar limitations for construction operations crossing the roadway for sanitary and storm sewer work and the construction of concrete sidewalk.
