On November 6, 2019, a grand jury in the District of Minnesota indicted Shelby Gene Boswell in federal court with possession and discharge of a firearm by a convicted felon. Following the October 18, 2019, incident where Mr. Boswell is alleged to have fired a rifle into the head of another man during a funeral ceremony at the Fond duLac Head Start Building, the Carlton County Attorney's Office (CCAO) charged Mr. Boswell with numerous State of Minnesota offenses. The CCAO and local law enforcement worked closely with the United States' Attorney's Office during the ongoing investigation. Federal prosecution provides the greatest consequences for Mr. Boswell 's alleged crimes. As a result of the federal indictment, State charges have been dismissed at this time. The CCAO is committed to prosecution that maximizes the l ong-term safety of our community. To that end, the CCAO collaborates with law enforcement and prosecution agencies at all levels of government.
