Carlton County COVID-19 update 4/1/20
Carlton County officials have reported the second lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in a county resident. The person did have contact with a lab-confirmed case, and that is the presumed exposure, but the case is still under investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
As a reminder, community transmission is widespread in Minnesota, so there are likely additional cases in our community that have not been lab-confirmed, and may go unidentified at this time (because of limitations of lab testing). Dave Lee, Director of Carlton County Public Health and Human Services shares, “This stresses the importance of the Stay at Home Order, as well as continued good infection control practices and social distancing. MDH is working with the identified cases and their close contacts for the investigation and will follow up with additional people who may be at risk.”
Good infection control practices include:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow
- Avoid touching your face or mouth
- Take care of your physical health and mental well-being
Information about the basics of the #stayathomeMN order, as well as a general Coronavirus PSA can be found on MDH’s website here.
Carlton County Public Health and Human Services is continuing to recommend that anyone with general health-related questions about COVID-19 call MDH’s hotline (7am-7pm): 651-201-3920 or 1-800-657-3903.
Additional Health Recommendations:
With holidays coming up in early April, MDH and Local Public Health are urging residents to continue to stay home and avoid gatherings. There continues to be an increase in COVID-19 cases in Minnesota, so this recommendation is essential to help limit the spread of the outbreak in our communities and is essential to help protect our most vulnerable Minnesotans – elderly and those with severe underlying health conditions.
