Carlton County Transportation will be spraying herbicides on vegetation growing through the pavement of the St. Louis River bike/pedestrian trail from Highway 210 East of the Four Seasons Sports Complex in Carlton North to the Park and Ride lot in Scanlon. In some areas the vegetation has caused severe pavement damage, making it difficult for people to use the trail.
Carlton County Land Department will be spraying herbicides on vegetation within the Right of Way of the Soo Line Trail in order to control non-native invasive plants pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Chapter 18.
Vegetation management with selective herbicides controls brush and yet allows grasses to grow unharmed. Herbicides used have been fully tested and are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
